Should I marry someone who has a huge student loan? How does it affect our marriage?

My fiance has a huge student loan and only pay a small percentage of the interest rate from his salary. Salary deduction of course and he doesn’t have a good credit score either. Does it affect me or us after we get married? What should I do?

You’re smart to assess his finances. Money is one of the top causes of divorce. My husband and I have a HUGE amount of student loans because of our medical/nursing school. While we are not currently in a good financial spot, in the near future things will be fine.

Think about how your fiance handles other parts of his fiances. If he is on top of paying his bills and generally responsible in how he handles his money then the student loans shouldn’t be that big of a factor. If he is irresponsible then it’s worth seeking a financial counselor to help the two of you out.

He had a student loan before he meet you so no it do not affect you. But his credit score will. Try to pay it off before you get married or work out a plan to do.Good Luck
